Toronto, Canada  ·

“Mother’s Zeibekiko (Το Ζεϊμπέκικο της Μάνας)” was born from the place where memory hurts the most: the moment a child realizes that no matter how far life moves forward, part of the soul forever walks behind… searching for its mother.

This is a conversation with absence.

A prayer for one more embrace.

A zeibekiko danced between earth and paradise.

Dedicated to the will be mothers, the now mothers, and the were mothers of the world.

To the women carrying life inside them.

To the mothers sacrificing quietly every day without applause.

And to the mothers who have departed this world, yet still live inside every heartbeat, every memory, every prayer whispered in the dark.

Inspired by the raw emotional tradition of the Greek zeibekiko, the song speaks about longing, grief, gratitude, faith, and the eternal bond between mother and child. Its poetry travels through old memories, through the eyes of a mother, through Thessaloniki’s soul, and toward heaven itself.

“How can I defeat the crab?

Will a simple prayer do for you?

Or do you, mother, hold the keys,

The keys to paradise?”

These words are not merely lyrics.

They are wounds transformed into poetry.

Created through the collaboration of Music Galore, Mavromatis Institute | Mi, and Pavlos Mavromatis, the piece stands as a timeless tribute to motherhood across every culture, language, and generation: https://musicgalore.bandcamp.com/track/mothers-zeibekiko

During the unofficial first live presentation streamed from Toronto, nearly 2,000 mothers and listeners from around the world gathered online in a deeply emotional shared experience that transcended borders and language.

Some songs entertain.

Others remain.

“Mother’s Zeibekiko” remains.

In loving memory of Cresanthe and Despoina.
