The Institute was incorporated on January 22, 2026, under corporation number 1763931-7, as a national not-for-profit organization operating exclusively for public benefit. The incorporation reflects a commitment to rigorous scholarship, ethical governance, and long-term contribution to knowledge, education, and societal well-being.


Mission and Public Purpose

The Mavromatis Institute advances interdisciplinary research and education that deepen understanding of human experience across cognitive, cultural, creative, and embodied domains. The Institute conducts, supports, and disseminates original research; publishes and shares research findings; and organizes educational programs, seminars, workshops, and public events. Central to its mission is fostering collaboration among scholars, learners, and institutions across disciplines and geographies.


All activities of the Institute are carried out to benefit the broader public or a significant section thereof, contributing to scholarly knowledge, public understanding, and societal well-being.


Governance and Integrity

The Institute operates under a transparent and accountable governance framework. Directors serve without remuneration, and no director may directly or indirectly profit from their position. Any surplus or accretion is reinvested solely in furtherance of the Institute’s purposes. Upon liquidation, any remaining property will be distributed to qualified donees in accordance with subsection 248(1) of the Income Tax Act, ensuring enduring public benefit.


The Institute is authorized to establish a single class of members, each entitled to full participation and voting rights, reinforcing democratic governance and institutional accountability.
