Legal
Terms & Conditions
Last updated: 21 July 2026
1. Acceptance of terms
By accessing or using mavromatisinstitute.org (the "Site"), you agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions. If you do not agree, do not use the Site.
2. Who we are
Mavromatis Institute | Mi is a non-profit organization incorporated and established solely in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, advancing interdisciplinary research and education. The Institute also carries out ongoing activity in Thessaloniki-Macedonia, Greece, but this does not constitute a formal legal establishment in Greece or the EU.
3. What the Site offers
The Site provides information about the Institute's research (including the Mavromatis Acceleration Principle and Gestaltango), events (including Parousia and the Thessaloniki Tango Party), publications, the Archo product, and ways to contact or collaborate with the Institute. Nothing on the Site constitutes professional, medical, psychotherapeutic, financial, or legal advice.
4. Intellectual property
4.1 Institute-owned content
Except where explicitly marked otherwise, all text, graphics, logos, and design on the Site are the property of Mavromatis Institute | Mi or its licensors and are protected by copyright and trademark law.
4.2 CC-BY 4.0 materials
Materials explicitly marked CC-BY 4.0 (including the MAP Open Materials and MAP White Paper) may be copied, adapted, and redistributed, including commercially, provided you give appropriate attribution to Mavromatis Institute | Mi. This license does not extend to the Institute's name, logo, or trademarks, and does not imply endorsement of your use.
4.3 Commercial publications
The Busy Is a Lie series and other commercially published works are not covered by CC-BY licensing and remain fully copyrighted. No part may be reproduced without written permission.
4.4 Third-party and collaborator content
Content, trademarks, and materials belonging to Pablito Greco, Tango Secrets, Music Galore, and Schedule Success remain the property of those respective parties. Links to their sites are provided for convenience; the Institute does not control and is not responsible for their content.
5. User conduct
You agree not to:
- Use the Site for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Site, its systems, or related networks
- Interfere with or disrupt the Site's operation, including via automated scraping that degrades performance
- Misrepresent your affiliation with the Institute
- Upload or transmit malicious code
6. Third-party links and services
The Site links to third-party websites, including collaborator sites (pablitgreco.com, thetangosecrets.com, themusicgalore.com, schedule-success.com, thessalonikitangoparty.com) and the Archo product. These are operated independently. We are not responsible for their content, availability, or practices, and linking to them does not constitute an endorsement of everything on those sites.
7. Research and pilot programs
The Mavromatis Acceleration Principle (MAP) is described on this Site as a framework and hypothesis under active research, not as a proven or validated outcome. Participation in MAP pilots, the Pilot Consortium, or any research collaboration is voluntary and governed by separate agreements or protocols provided at the time of participation, which take precedence over these Terms for that specific activity.
8. Donations and event participation
Where the Site directs you to donate to or register for the Thessaloniki Tango Party or any other event via a third-party site (thessalonikitangoparty.com), that transaction is governed entirely by the terms of that platform, not by these Terms: Mi does not process or control it. A voluntary donation, made with no goods or service purchased in exchange, is not a consumer sales contract, so it is not the kind of transaction the EU Consumer Rights Directive's 14-day withdrawal right (see Section 9) applies to. The Institute is not responsible for payment processing errors, refunds, or disputes arising from third-party platforms.
9. Purchases (Archo, book series)
If you purchase Archo or a title from the Busy Is a Lie series:
- EU/EEA consumers have a 14-day right of withdrawal from most online purchases under the EU Consumer Rights Directive (2011/83/EU), as implemented in Greece by Law 2251/1994, along with the right to clear pre-contract disclosure of price, delivery, and cancellation terms.
- Ontario consumers, where the price exceeds $50 CAD, are protected by Ontario's Consumer Protection Act, 2002 (SO 2002, c 30, Sch A, Part IV, Internet Agreements): before you complete a purchase we will disclose the price, payment terms, delivery details, and cancellation rights, give you an explicit opportunity to accept, decline, or correct errors before finalizing, and deliver a copy of the agreement to you (by order-confirmation email) within 15 days.
Nothing in this section limits any statutory consumer right that cannot be waived by contract in your jurisdiction.
10. Newsletter and electronic communications
Signing up for the Institute's newsletter is treated as express consent under Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL, SC 2010, c 23) to receive commercial electronic messages from us. Every such message identifies the Institute as sender, includes our contact address, and provides a working unsubscribe mechanism, honored within 10 business days and functional for at least 60 days after send. You may withdraw consent at any time by using that unsubscribe link or by emailing us directly.
11. Disclaimer of warranties
The Site and its content are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. Research described on the Site, including MAP, represents ongoing academic work and is explicitly not represented as a completed, peer-validated outcome.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Mavromatis Institute | Mi, its founder, staff, and collaborators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of, or inability to use, the Site, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
This limitation does not exclude liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. In particular, under Article 332 of the Greek Civil Code, any advance exclusion or limitation of liability for wilful misconduct or gross negligence is void. For users in Greece or elsewhere in the EU/EEA, this limitation applies only to ordinary negligence, and our liability for gross negligence or wilful misconduct is not limited by this section. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under any other applicable law (including, where applicable, liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud).
13. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Mavromatis Institute | Mi and its founder, staff, and collaborators from any claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your violation of these Terms or your misuse of the Site.
14. Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of Ontario, Canada, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, and any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of the Site is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Ontario, Canada. This general clause is appropriate given that the Institute is incorporated and established there. It does not, however, override two categories of mandatory law that a governing-law clause legally cannot displace:
- Data protection. The Institute has no formal EU establishment, but under GDPR Article 3(2) (the "targeting" basis), EU/EEA data protection law still applies to our processing of EU/EEA residents' personal data because we direct activity toward them through our Greek operations and services offered to EU consumers, regardless of this governing-law clause. See our Privacy Policy for your rights.
- EU consumer protection. Under Regulation (EC) 593/2008 ("Rome I"), Article 6, a business that directs its activity to a consumer's country cannot contract around that country's mandatory consumer-protection rules by choosing a different governing law. EU/EEA consumers purchasing Archo or books retain the protections described in Section 9 regardless of this clause.
15. Changes to these terms
We may revise these Terms at any time. Material changes will be reflected by an updated "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the Site after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
16. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
